I am a bmother (you should excuse the expression)who surendered my daughter in 1963. We were reunited (I found her) in 1978 and yet - her mother's response is still rage, fear, and horror. She has caused my daughter (and me)great pain by laying tons of guilt on my daughter, making our relationship conflicted and, more recently, impossible. She never told her husband I had located my daughter because he was a lawyer and she was afraid he would take legal action against me (which was a definite plus on her side) and he died several years ago without knowing I had resurfaced. When I read your bedtime story I thought at first you were describing my daughter's birthparent's response to my knock on the door! It's so the same it's comical!!! Their shame that they hoped to conceal wasn't an illegitimate baby, it was the inability to bring forth a full-term, living child though she had had nine unsuccessful pregnancies - not really such a crime, eh? Yet, their response has been identical to the one you do such a great job portraying in the story. Over the last few months I have realized that the problem isn't my daughter's amother or me or my daughter. It is ADOPTION! Phew!! Since I shared that with my daughter, things are a little easier for us now and we are working on a second reunion. Thanks for being out there.
